When it comes to your wellness journey, nothing will make more of an impact than the food you eat! Wholesome, healthy foods will provide you with nourishment and energy to power your workout and fuel your body throughout the day.
You simply can’t do this unless you make healthy eating a priority! That said, I know we all have busy lives, and sometimes, pulling through the drive-thru is a lot easier than putting together a massive dinner production—especially when you spent your day at work, running the kids around, and squeezing in an hour for exercise.
That’s why I want to share my number one hack for weight loss success: meal prepping! You have to make healthy eating a more convenient choice than junk food. And to do that, all you have to do is plan ahead!
Meal prepping has allowed me to go to work, travel, and have fun with friends without ever worrying about how or where I’m going to get healthy food. I know that I can just reach into my fridge and grab one of my to-go containers, and I’m ready for the road! You can do the same.
All you need to do is carve out a few hours at the beginning of each week to set yourself up for success. To make the process easier, grab some of my favorite meal prep essentials! And major bonus, some of these tools you might already have around the house.
Portion control matters! No need to eye-ball it. Having a scale in your kitchen will help ensure you’re getting just the right amount of protein, grains, and veggies—for a perfectly balanced meal every time.
Mason jars are a true gift for meal preppers everywhere! They’re plastic-free and can be used time and time again for pre-made salads (just be sure to keep the dressing on the side), overnight oats, fruit cups, or juice blends.
It’s time to invest in some glass Pyrex containers. Unlike harmful plastic containers that can leach scary chemicals into your food when heated, glass is non-toxic for your body and our environment. Plus, they last forever! And they’re especially useful around the holidays when you have all those leftovers.
How would you like to make a big batch of healthy stew or chili for the entire week by just pressing a button? Slow cookers are essential for quick and easy meals, and if you don’t already have one in your kitchen, you need to snag one!
Meal Planning Calendar
The easiest way to fatigue your palate is by eating the same thing day after day. Even when you’re meal prepping, you can still switch it up! Variety is the spice of life, and by creating a calendar to track your meals, you can build a system that keeps you excited.
Many of the dips and dressings you will find at the store are filled with sugar, sodium, and other fillers that your body just doesn’t need. Save time and money by making your own! From hummus to a healthy, cashew-based ranch alternative, food processors can whip up just about anything.
Insulated Lunch Box
Keep your goodies fresh all day with an insulated lunch box! Many quality lunch boxes on the market today can actually go from cold to hot. So whether you have a long day at work or have a day full of errands, bring your lunch box along for the ride, so you never have to worry about how you’ll squeeze in time for a healthy meal!
Grater & Spiralizer
Do your lackluster salads need a bit of zest? Use a grater or a handy spiralizer to transform even the most boring of meals. Add grated carrots and beets to your favorite salad. Spiralize zucchini and make “zoodles” for a great low-carb pasta alternative.
Just because you’re eating healthy meals doesn’t mean you can’t add flavor...and lots of it! A simple garlic press will allow you to load up your dishes with garlic or ginger quickly. A regular veggie stir fry can transform into a tasty treat in a snap.
Reusable Silicone Food Bags
Want to create a homemade trail mix but don’t want to keep tossing out single-use plastic bags? Reusable silicone food bags are not only plastic-free and non-toxic, but they’re also incredibly versatile. I love any product that has multiple uses. Take my word for it, and invest in some reusable food bags, stat!
